Week 8: Blankets for Zambia

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Never put limitations on God. He is a big God, who is alive today and working among us. He is the one who stirs our hearts passions. He is the One who places that tiny singe of pain in our hearts when we feel burdened for something. He is the one with powerful plans and He is the one who accomplishes them through us.

Kandice Kidd, a student who attended Jonathon Creek this past summer, can testify about how God has the power to accomplish anything. Like many other students, Kandice was incredibly moved this summer when she watched the kids in Zambia via Skype. During the session, one particular thing that caught her attention was the need for blankets for the kids in Zambia as winter approaches. Kandice left camp with a burden and she knew she had to do something about it.

When Kandice got home she immediately took action. She organized the whole church together for one night to make blankets for the kids. The church produced various blankets with different colors and patterns by piecing and tying together bits of colored cloth. In all 75 people from her church joined Kandice and together produced 65 blankets. She said, “Even my Papa got on his hands and knees to make them.”

Kandice was given the opportunity to share with her church about Zambia and each one of them was impacted. They all contributed to the payment and making of the blankets. Kandice’s burden turned into many blessings that night as she touched the lives of the people in her church and children she didn’t even know who were thousands of miles away.

Kandice’s goal was to combine her passion to tie blankets with her burden for kids in need. However, this Beyond story is not about a goal but rather goals accomplished. Recently, Kandice brought all 65 blankets to Crossings central office in Louisville to donate them to the kids in Zambia. Why, because as she said, “these kids don’t have all the blessings I have.”

Never put limitations on God. Through him and by him all things are possible. Amen.

Week 7: Baker goes Beyond!

Friday, October 9th, 2009

If you move, He will move! Just ask Krista Baker, who stepped out on a leap of faith and has seen God move in mighty ways. After being challenged to go Beyond Krista decided she wanted to give free dance lessons to underprivileged children.

Krista said, “I have started the dance lessons at the elementary school and they are going amazing! Around thirty girls come each week and we have three different classes for different grade groups. The girls are precious, God has definitely hand picked them and hopefully he’ll start working in their hearts.”

What a blessing it is to hear the effects of a successful Beyond project! Because of Krista’s leap of faith thirty girls lives are being penetrated for Christ. And it doesn’t stop here, there is more to Krista’s Beyond. She has decided to host a benefit dance recital in March featuring the girls at her high school. Krista said all of the proceeds will go to underprivileged children.

“God is definitely at work and everything seems to be falling into place,” Krista said. “It has been an eye opener for me. Yet it is challenging trying to fit dance together with presenting the Gospel. I know God is in control and I thank him for this huge blessing in my life.”

God never promised stepping out on faith would be easy and without challenges. But he did promise to remain faithful to us through it all! He has given you specific talents and abilities for you to use for his glory, just as Krista has illustrated. Never quit seeking God’s will in your life. Take that leap of faith and see how God can move!
